Volkswagen strengthens its commitment to North America with PowerCo SE’s first Gigafactory in Canada.

The Volkswagen Group is intensifying its activities in North America and aims to establish a leading position in this crucial market for electric vehicles. The decision by the Group and its battery subsidiary, PowerCo, has been made to establish their first Gigafactory outside of Europe in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. The planned cell factory will produce sustainable unified cells and is expected to begin operations in 2027. By expanding cell production to Canada, Volkswagen underscores its ambitious growth strategy in North America.
