As the implementing organization of the Competence Centre for Mining & Mineral Resources, AHK China is very pleased to cordially invite you to their Information Event in June. Founded in January 2021, the Competence Centre, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), serves as the first and central point of contact for German companies and institutions for an engagement in the Chinese mining and mineral resources industry.

With the essence of digitalization, intelligization, information and automation, smart mining has developed rapidly in China in recent years. The number of coal excavation mining faces equipped with smart mining technologies, for example, reached 494 at the end of 2020 and it is still growing, while it was only three in 2015. The first 5G smart coal mine has been launched in Shanxi province in June 2020, and in December the National Energy Administration published a list of 71 demonstration coal mines for intelligization. However, there are still a lot of challenges for the development of smart mining, i.e., shortage of investment, lack of skilled workers and the low motivation of smaller mining companies. With last year’s new Guiding Opinions on Accelerating Development of Coal Mines Intelligization and guides for intelligent mine construction, smelters and manufacturing plants in the non-ferrous metals industry, the government clarified the future objectives and approaches for the mining industry, which involve internet of things, big data, cloud computing, 5G, as well as artificial intelligence technology, and indicated the greater attention to more efficient, safer, and greener mines. Against this background, it is interesting to learn more about the developments of smart mining in China, and to discuss opportunities for Sino-German cooperation.

At the event, Mr. Fu Ensan from the China Coal Information Institute of the Ministry of Emergency Management, will present latest developments of coal mines intelligization in China. This will be followed by Prof. Feng Maolin from University of Science and Technology Beijing, and President of Rhino Intelligence Mining Equipment Academy, who will share insights on the status for intelligization and electrification of metal mines equipment in China.

The meeting will be held in English and takes place online via Zoom and onsite on
