Information Event – Recycling and Comprehensive Utilization of Raw Materials in China

März 29, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Folgende Informationen werden auf Englisch zur Verfügung gestellt.

Dear Partners and Stakeholders,
As the implementing organization of the Competence Centre for Mining & Resources, AHK Greater China is very pleased to cordially invite you to our Information Event in March. Founded at the beginning of 2021, the Competence Centre, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), serves as the first and central point of contact for German companies and institutions for an engagement in the Chinese mining and resources industry.
China is highly dependent on imports of various kinds of raw materials from foreign countries. Domestic recycling and reuse of resources therefore is an essential strategy for China to ensure sufficient supply. The Chinese government has been facilitating circular economy development since more than a decade and recycling of raw materials has been further enhanced and improved in recent years. Between 2016 and 2020 for instance, the volume of recycled non-ferrous metals in China has reached 14.5 million tons, accounting for almost a quarter of the total output of main non-ferrous metals. Numerous plans and targets of the Chinese government indicate its further attention to raw materials recycling: According to the new 14th Five-Year Plans for circular economy and for raw materials industry (2021-2025), the proportion of recycled copper and aluminum should reach 35% and 20% respectively, the volume of recycled non-ferrous metals should amount to 20 million tons and the value of the Chinese resources recycling industry should reach 5 trillion CNY by 2025. However, the raw materials recycling industry in China is still facing challenges, i.e., lack of high-end recycling, insufficiency of sorting precision for rare metals as well as high costs. In addition, waste power batteries, which have significantly increased in recent years and are expected to reach 1 million tons by 2025, have become another focus among the recycling industry. Against this background, it is interesting to learn more about the developments of raw materials recycling in China, and to discuss opportunities for Sino-German cooperation.
At the event, Ms. Liu Jiaojiao from the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Recycling Metal Branch will present latest developments of recycling and reuse of non-ferrous metals in China. This will be followed by Prof. Sun Zhi from the Institute of Process Engineering at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who will share insights on the status for recycling of power batteries in China.

The meeting will be held in English and take place online via Zoom and onsite on
